How to Choose a Wedding Photographer: 15 Questions to Ask Before You Book
Fifteen simple questions to ask a wedding photographer or videographer in Pakistan, the warning signs to watch for, and a booking checklist to keep your family safe.

Your wedding photos are the one part of the wedding you keep forever. The food is eaten and the decor comes down, but the photos stay in the family for years. Weddme lists 791 wedding photography and videography businesses, and choosing between them can feel hard. This guide gives you 15 simple questions to ask, the warning signs to watch for, and a booking checklist.
Start with the right shortlist
Begin in the photography category and filter by your city, for example Lahore, Karachi or Islamabad. Open five or six profiles. Look at the photos, the packages and the prices, and check whether they shoot the events you need. Keep three for a call or visit.

15 questions to ask before you book
About their work
- Can we see one full wedding gallery? Not only the best shots, the whole event.
- Who will actually shoot our wedding? The owner, or someone from the team?
- How many photographers and videographers will come? One person cannot be in two rooms at once.
- Have you worked at our venue before? Experience with the light and layout helps.
- How do you handle family group photos? Big Pakistani families need a plan for this.
About the package
- What exactly is included in this price? Hours, events, edited photos, video and album.
- How many edited photos will we get? And can we have the unedited ones too?
- Is a highlight video or reel included? Many couples want one for social media.
- Is drone coverage included, and is it allowed at our venue?
- What are the album options and their costs?
About delivery and payment
- When will we get the photos and the video? Ask for a date, not "soon".
- How will you deliver the files? A link, a USB, or both?
- How much is the advance, and how do we pay it? Always ask for a receipt.
- What happens if the date changes or we cancel?
- What happens if you cannot come on the day? A good studio has a backup plan.
Warning signs to watch for
| Warning sign | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Will not show a full gallery | The best ten shots can hide weak work on the rest of the day |
| Asks for full payment upfront | You lose your leverage if something goes wrong |
| No clear delivery date | Photos delayed for months is a common complaint |
| Price changes after you agree | Expect more surprise charges later |
| Only talks on calls, never in writing | Nothing to show if there is a dispute |
| Photos look copied from other studios | Ask where and when each photo was taken |
Meeting the photographer
A short meeting or video call tells you a lot. Bring your event dates, venues and guest numbers. Ask to see printed albums if they offer them, and notice whether they listen to what you want or only push their biggest package. If more than one person will shoot, ask to meet or at least see the work of the person who will actually come.
Plan a must-have shot list with your family
Every family has photos they will want for years. Write them down and share the list with your photographer a week before the wedding:
- The couple with both sets of parents, separately and together
- Grandparents and elders, who are often missed in the rush
- Siblings and close cousins in one group
- Key rasams such as the nikkah signing, rukhsati and doodh pilai
- Details such as the bridal outfit, jewellery and mehndi design
On the wedding day
Ask one calm family member to stay near the photographer and point out important relatives. Share the timings of each rasm in advance, and make sure the team gets a meal and a place to keep their equipment. Small things like these give you better photos.
After the wedding
When you receive the photos, save copies in two places, such as a laptop and online storage. Choose album photos together as a family, and ask how long the photographer keeps a backup in case you lose your copy.
Thinking about a drone?
Drone shots look impressive, especially at outdoor venues and farmhouses. Before paying for one, check that your venue allows drones, since many halls and some areas do not. Ask whether the drone pilot is separate from the main team, so the stage is still covered while the drone is in the air. Indoor halls rarely need a drone, so you may save money by skipping it there and using it only for an outdoor event.
Photo only, or photo and video?
Photos are cheaper and easier to share with relatives. Video captures voices, the rukhsati and the moments between photos. Many families book full photo coverage for all events and a cinematic video only for the barat. Decide what matters most to your family and spend there.
Your booking checklist
- Final price and everything included, in writing
- Names of the people who will shoot, and how many
- Every event date, time and venue
- Delivery dates for photos, video and album
- Advance amount and a receipt
- Cancellation and date change rules
Using Weddme to contact photographers
On each listing you can tap to see the phone, WhatsApp, email or website, or send an inquiry with your event details. A claimed listing sends your inquiry straight to the photographer's portal. You can also check "Ratings elsewhere" for Google or Trustpilot scores, and "Where this information comes from" to see their public pages. Read our guide to wedding vendors on Weddme for a full walkthrough.
Weddme is a directory and is not a party to your booking. If something feels wrong about a listing, report it to info@weddme.pk. Planning is easier when everyone is on the same page, so share your shortlist with family, just as you did when you checked rishta details before a family meeting. If a younger brother, sister or cousin is still looking for a match, Weddme can help there too: browse never married rishta profiles, profiles aged 25 to 30, or rishta profiles in Rawalpindi.

Helpful answers from this guide
How early should we book a wedding photographer?
Book as early as you can, ideally a few months ahead for wedding season. Popular photographers fill winter weekends first.
How much advance should we pay a photographer?
Agree the amount in writing and always get a receipt. Avoid paying the full amount before the event.
Should we hire one photographer for all events?
It keeps the style consistent and is often cheaper as a package, but you can also book a premium team for the barat and a smaller package for other events.
