Is Baraat a religious requirement for marriage?

Direct answer

No. Baraat is a cultural procession and wedding gathering, not a condition for the legal validity or registration of a Muslim marriage in Pakistan. The official Nikahnama records the parties, witnesses, dower, conditions and solemnization details; it does not require a groom’s procession, venue or particular number of guests. Families may value Baraat as hospitality and public celebration, but it can be combined, simplified or omitted. Religious or cultural importance should not be confused with a legal requirement that makes the nikah valid.
