Why do literacy and education statistics matter when studying marriage age?

PSLM and HIES measure literacy, attendance, enrolment, attainment and out-of-school status. The latest HIES 2024–25 social report puts literacy at 63% for people aged 10+, including 73% for males and 54% for females. Literacy means reading and writing a simple statement with understanding, not holding a degree.

These figures describe educational access, not individual intelligence, spouse preferences or proof that education caused a particular marriage decision. State the survey period and age group whenever comparing figures.
