Why can the resale value of a wedding gold set differ from its purchase price?

Direct answer
Resale value can be lower because a buyer may value recoverable materials differently from the original design, labour and retail charges.
Ask for the seller's buyback method before purchase, including purity checks, stone treatment and deductions. A valuation for insurance is not a promise that another buyer will pay that sum. Keep item records and compare written offers when selling. Neither an invoice nor a rising headline gold price guarantees recovery of every amount originally spent on a wedding set.
