Does a stamp on gold jewellery prove that its purity has been independently tested?

Answer

Direct answer

No. A stamp is a claim or mark that needs interpretation; it does not by itself prove independent testing of that particular item.

Ask who applied it, what standard it represents and how the associated record can be verified. A genuine assay or recognised hallmark has a defined process, unlike an unexplained number or seller's initials. Keep the purity statement on the invoice and use a competent independent service when needed. Do not assume another country's hallmarking rules automatically apply in Pakistan.
