Why are phone and email checks not background checks?

Phone and email checks confirm control of a contact route; they do not investigate a person’s wider offline history. A background check would require separate evidence about identity, marital status, employment, education, criminal records or other claims, depending on the purpose and lawful process. Weddme’s trust report therefore treats phone and email confirmation as contact-channel events only. That distinction prevents a useful account-control signal from being overstated as a complete safety or truthfulness guarantee.
