Safety & Verification

How can someone safely verify marital status before proceeding with a rishta?

Answer

Direct answer

Safe verification combines consent, documents and independent confirmation. The prospective spouse can provide a recent certified marriage-status or registration record where available, a divorce certificate or court decree for a previous marriage, or a former spouse’s death certificate for widowhood. Names, CNIC numbers, dates and issuing authorities should match, and the relevant Union Council can confirm registered records under applicable procedure. A CNIC alone does not reliably prove current marital history. Verification should be reciprocal, limited to necessary data and conducted without impersonation, account access or covert surveillance.
