What legal rights can a bride specify in the Nikahnama?

Direct answer
The official Nikahnama records dower, whether it is prompt or deferred, special conditions, restrictions connected with another marriage, and whether the husband delegates the power of divorce to the wife and on what terms. Special conditions can also record negotiated commitments concerning residence, education, work, maintenance or other lawful matters. These entries do not replace rights already supplied by law, and enforceability depends on precise wording and the governing law. Blank clauses should therefore be considered deliberately rather than crossed out as a routine formality.
