What does Pakistani law say about consent to marriage?

A valid Muslim marriage is based on the free consent of the parties, expressed through offer and acceptance; family participation does not substitute for that consent. Section 498B of the Pakistan Penal Code specifically criminalizes compelling or coercing a woman to enter marriage. An arranged introduction can therefore be lawful when both adults remain free to accept or refuse, while threats, confinement, deception or pressure that removes genuine choice may amount to forced marriage and other offences. Immediate danger should be referred to police or an appropriate protection service.
