Pakistan’s standard Nikahnama expressly provides spaces for special conditions and for recording whether the husband delegates a power of divorce to the wife. Conditions may address matters such as residence, education, employment, maintenance or agreed financial obligations. Their enforceability is not automatic: wording must be clear, accepted by both parties, lawful and consistent with applicable family law and public policy. Important terms should be drafted before signing and reviewed by a qualified family lawyer, because a vague promise may be difficult to prove or enforce later.
