How can someone verify whether a marriage is officially registered in Pakistan?

Direct answer

The authoritative record is held by the relevant Union Council or other local registration authority, not by a photograph of a Nikahnama sent in a chat. The Muslim Family Laws rules require the completed register and index to be preserved and permit inspection or a certified copy on payment of the prescribed fee. Verification normally starts with the Union Council named on the document, matching names, CNIC numbers, date, register entry and registrar details. Local procedures and access requirements can differ by province and municipality.
