Overseas Pakistanis & Marriage

What challenges arise in marriages between Pakistan-based and overseas Pakistani partners?

Answer

Direct answer

Research on transnational Pakistani families identifies challenges involving immigration dependence, long-distance courtship, unfamiliar legal systems, language or work adjustment, remittance expectations, care for parents and disagreement over where the couple will live. Power can become unequal when one spouse controls sponsorship, documents, money and local knowledge. These findings are qualitative and especially developed in British Pakistani research, so they do not describe every destination. Clear plans for status, employment, housing, visits, family support and legal registration matter before migration promises are treated as settled outcomes.
