How can a marriage performed abroad be documented in Pakistan?

Direct answer
The starting document is the marriage certificate issued under the law of the country where the marriage occurred. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry states that an overseas Nikahnama or marriage certificate should be authenticated by the local foreign office and countersigned by the relevant Pakistani diplomatic mission. Translation, apostille or additional local registration may be required depending on the issuing country and intended use in Pakistan. NADRA family-record changes are a later identity step and do not replace proper legalization of the foreign civil document.
