Overseas Pakistanis & Marriage

How can overseas Pakistanis register a marriage performed in Pakistan?

Answer

Direct answer

A marriage performed in Pakistan should first be registered with the competent Union Council through the licensed Nikah Registrar, even when one or both spouses normally live abroad. Certified Nikahnama and marriage registration certificate copies can then be attested or apostilled for foreign use according to the destination country’s rules. Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry lists extra evidence for a foreign-national spouse, including passport, visa and entry details. Overseas residence does not convert an unregistered ceremony into an embassy registration; the Pakistani local record comes first.
