What is Mayun in Pakistani wedding tradition?

Last reviewed:

Answer

Direct answer

Mayun is a pre-wedding custom in which the bride, and in some communities the groom, enters a period of preparation before the main celebrations. Ubtan, yellow clothing, songs and women-led gatherings may be part of it, but practice differs across regions and families. Pakistan’s National Register of Intangible Cultural Heritage documents Mayun as cultural heritage, not a legal stage of marriage. It can be shortened, combined with another event or omitted without affecting the nikah or marriage registration.
