Does urbanization change how families search for marriage partners?

Urbanization can widen contact through universities, workplaces, professional networks and digital platforms while families continue to screen and negotiate proposals. National data shows an urban–rural difference in women’s reported agency: 84.7% of urban ever-married women versus 78.1% of rural women said they had a say in choosing their husband in the 2017–18 DHS. That difference does not identify the search channel or prove urban residence caused it. Pakistan has no national time series dividing matches into relatives, workplaces, apps and other sources.
