How can vegetarian and vegan wedding meals be specified without ambiguity?

Answer

Direct answer

Specify which ingredients must be excluded instead of assuming vegetarian or vegan means the same thing to every supplier.

Discuss stocks, sauces, fats, dairy, eggs and shared preparation where relevant, and identify the meals clearly for service. Ask separately about allergies: a vegan dish is not automatically free from milk, egg or other allergen cross-contact. Confirm the caterer's actual controls rather than accepting a label alone. Dietary preference and a medically necessary exclusion need distinct conversations.
