Why do registered marriages matter for Pakistan’s population data?

Reliable civil registration creates continuous official records of marriages, births, divorces, and deaths, reducing dependence on periodic surveys and people’s recall. When registration is incomplete or inconsistent, totals and rates may miss events or depend more heavily on estimates. Surveys remain valuable, but they use samples and confidence limits. Better registration improves denominators, legal documentation, and trend measurement; it does not remove the need to protect personal data or interpret categories carefully.
