Who is included in the DHS category “currently married women”?
Last reviewed:
Direct answer
“Currently married women” are respondents whose marital status was married at the time of the survey. The group excludes never-married, widowed, divorced, and separated women unless a particular table defines inclusion differently. Results for currently married women therefore describe a selected population and cannot automatically be extended to all women, all adults, or all marriages. For age-at-first-marriage analysis, restricting attention to currently married respondents can also create selection issues in younger age groups.
