The 2023 Census classified approximately 38.88% of Pakistan’s population as urban and 61.12% as rural, making the country majority rural under the census definitions. Urbanization varied sharply by administrative unit: Sindh was majority urban, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had the highest rural share. These classifications describe settlement patterns, not digital access or matrimonial behavior. An urban resident is not automatically online, and a rural resident is not automatically excluded from digital services.
