Family networks are an important route into marriage in Pakistan, but national surveys do not directly count who introduced each spouse. The 2017–18 DHS found that roughly 63% of women were related to their husbands and almost half were married to a first cousin, demonstrating dense kinship connections without proving who initiated the proposal. Non-relative marriages may also be introduced by relatives, while cousin marriages may involve personal choice. A credible introduction-rate estimate would need a national survey question specifically identifying the matchmaker or first point of contact.
