How should a couple check a venue's usable guest capacity rather than its advertised maximum?

Direct answer
Check capacity using the actual seating, stage, serving areas and clear exit routes, not the venue's largest advertised number.
Ask management to show the proposed layout and explain the authorised occupancy basis. Include staff and suppliers where relevant and confirm that accessible routes remain usable after decoration. A room that fits more chairs is not necessarily suitable for the same number of guests at a buffet. Competent venue staff should assess safe capacity; a family headcount or floor-area guess is not a substitute.
