Yes. Wedding customs can vary by province, city, language group, sect, community, family history and budget.

Even common words such as engagement, mayun, mehndi, rukhsati and walima can mean slightly different things in different families.

That is why families should ask what each event means in practice instead of assuming everyone follows the same custom.

Pakistan’s population is socially and regionally diverse, so a custom that feels normal in one household may feel unfamiliar in another. The safest approach is explanation before judgment.
