What should be checked before steaming or ironing an embellished wedding garment?
Last reviewed:
Direct answer
Check the garment's care instructions and every heat-sensitive trim before applying an iron or steamer.
Fabric, lining, adhesive and embellishments may tolerate different treatments, so the main fibre alone is not enough. Ask the maker or an experienced cleaner if instructions are missing, and test only as they advise in an inconspicuous area. Do not press directly over beads or assume steam is harmless. Heat, moisture and pressure can permanently change a garment's surface, shape or attached decoration.
