Can mistakes on a Nikahnama be corrected after registration?

A registered Nikahnama should never be altered privately with erasure, overwriting or replacement pages. A spelling or transcription error normally has to be taken to the Nikah Registrar and the Union Council holding the original register, with identity documents and evidence of the correct entry. Procedures differ by local authority, and a material dispute about identity, date, dower or marital terms may require an affidavit, inquiry or court order. Corrections should appear in the official register and certified copies, not only on one family’s paper copy.
