How is education associated with cousin marriage in Pakistan?

Answer

Direct answer

Pakistan DHS tables show that marriage to relatives is generally less common among women with higher education than among women with no schooling, but it remains present at every education level. Education may widen social networks, delay marriage and increase individual involvement in choosing a spouse; it also tracks urban residence and household wealth. Because these factors move together, the survey establishes association rather than proving that education itself causes families to abandon cousin marriage. Province and family history remain important sources of variation.
