What should families ask before a wedding vendor uses indoor smoke or special effects?

Direct answer
Ask for venue approval and a competent assessment of the specific smoke or special effect before agreeing to use it indoors.
Confirm the product, operator, ventilation needs and interaction with alarms, exits and guests. Identify who can stop the effect and what happens if conditions change. A supplier's claim that an effect is wedding-safe is not a substitute for checking the actual room. Do not disable safety systems or assume every artificial fog is harmless because it contains no visible flame.
