Marriage registration and identity-record modification are separate processes. After the Union Council registers the marriage, NADRA records may need to be updated to reflect marital status, a spouse relationship or a changed name if the person chooses one. A woman is not required to abandon her father’s name merely because she married. Passports, employer records, tax, bank, insurance and immigration files may have their own procedures. Consistent spelling and dates across records reduce later problems, but each update should rely on the certified marriage document rather than an informal copy.
