How common is labour-force participation among married women in Pakistan?

World Bank research describes married women’s labour-force participation as persistently low, around the high teens during the studied period, with substantial variation by rural or urban residence, education, household circumstances, and type of work. Marriage can coincide with increased care and mobility constraints, while some rural and home-based economic activity may be undercounted. The evidence describes structural patterns and associations; it does not imply that marriage has the same employment effect for every woman.
