Overseas Pakistanis & Marriage

What financial expectations should be discussed in an overseas Pakistani marriage?

Answer

Direct answer

Currency differences can hide rather than solve financial disagreements. Couples should clarify current income after tax, housing costs, debt, remittances, support for parents, wedding expenses, visa fees, travel, whether the relocating spouse can work and who pays during processing. A foreign salary should not be compared with Pakistani expenses without the destination’s cost of living. Transnational research shows that money also carries family expectations across borders. Account access and emergency funds matter because immigration dependence can otherwise become financial dependence inside the marriage.
